Samsung adds new tech to their TV, Bluetooth and 3D

Samsung has been pretty hot for the past few days for its small-size, high storage hard drives. It looks like its TV product is getting hot too. It’s just equiped its new plasma TV, 50″ SPD-50P91FHD, with Bluetooth, and again makes itself to hold another “first in market” title - the first full HD plasma TV in the world that is Bluetooth-capable. This Bluetooth-capable TV features True Black Panel for an improved full HD image and a Cinema Screen Mode that utilizes proprietary technologies like Ultra DayLight, Natural True Color, and Real motion studio. It’s is compatible with Bluetooth-capable devices such as headsets and photo printers. It also supports ACAP standard two-way data broadcast. You can get it in Korea, which is pretty expensive, about $4,600.

World’s First Transparent Design Phone

Europe : LG Electronics unveiled the world’s first transparent design phone, the LG-GD900, at the Mobile World Congress 2009 in Barcelona, Spain.

Having introduced a selection of highly acclaimed and stylish phones, LG makes a bold step in the design category by introducing yet another innovative aesthetic concept, transparency. This crystal, glass-like phone proves that stylish design can be achieved not only with the use of vivid colors, but also by revealing the handset in its purest form. Once imagined but never seen before, the LG-GD900 is expected to make a new fashion statement. With the debut of the LG-GD900 at the Mobile World Congress 2009, LG will strengthen its leadership in the mobile industry by expanding its design portfolio.

Transparent yet eye-catching, the LG-GD900 will stand out from the crowd, and so will those who carry it. When opened, its sliding, translucent keypad illuminates a cool glow that reflects the phone’s sleek and polished silver body. But first-rate design was not the only thing in mind when creating the LG-GD900. It also lives up to the highest level of technical features expected in a premium calibre handset, including its dedicated Bluetooth headset.

The LG-GD900 is scheduled for release during the second quarter of 2009

Plasma TV is DEAD

As we predicted several years ago, plasma technology is on its way out. Putting one of the nails in the lengthy coffin is Pioneer Corp, who is stopping ALL production of plasma display panels. Last week we reported that they had decided to stop all 42-inch panel production, however that has now been expanded to its entire plasma line. This comes via an industry source briefed on the plan and quoted by Reuters in an article released today. Rather than panic, Pioneer shares immediately jumped to a four-month high following the report - up 11.2 percent.

Will New Blu-ray Drives Suck Your Laptop Battery Dry?

Now that Sony’s Blu-ray technology has won the high-def format war, computer manufacturers must tackle its power-hungry playback performance.
Everyone's idle/Flickr

Watching a Blu-ray movie in all its high-definition glory on your laptop may finally become an affordable prospect this year. Just don't wander too far from a power outlet.

With the Sony-backed HD format emerging victorious from a two-year showdown with Toshiba's HD DVD, many laptop manufacturers are now scrambling to add Blu-ray drives in their desktop and notebook lineups. Next month, Dell will even introduce a sub-$1,000 Blu-ray notebook, according to Brian Zucker, a technology strategist for the company.

But the promise of viewing an increasing variety of HD movies on your laptop may be overshadowed by ongoing concerns over the technology's vampiric effect on battery life. Indeed, if the first generation of Blu-ray equipped laptops are any indication, you might not get more than halfway through that movie before running out of juice completely, analysts say.

$200 Laptops Break a Business Mode

AN FRANCISCO — The global credit crisis may have caused the decline in consumer and business spending that is assaulting the giants of high tech. But as the dominant technology companies try to emerge from this slump, they may find themselves blaming people like David Title just as much as they blame Wall Street.

Mr. Title, a 35-year-old new-media manager at a film production company in New York, has dropped his cable subscription and moved to watching most of his television online — free. While shopping for a new laptop for his girlfriend recently, he sidestepped more expensive full-featured computers and picked a bare-bones, $200 Asus EeePC laptop, also known as a netbook.

New Laptop Technology You Need To Know (Before Buying Your Next Laptop)

Laptop or notebook computer technology is advancing at a blistering speed. Ferrari fast. So fast that by the time you purchase your new laptop, it's probably already obsolete or out of date. A sobering thought considering the hefty prices you have to pay for a high-end laptop.

New Laptop Technology You Need To Know (Before Buying Your Next Laptop) But laptop technology is changing so fast new innovations are coming on stream as you read this article. There is a whole new generation of notebook technology every two years or less. Therefore, unless you buy or upgrade your laptop each year you're falling behind what these sleek little powerhouses can now deliver.

And unless you're already in Geek Heaven, keeping track of all these new technologies and innovations can be quite a chore. Figuring out the right Graphics chipset that works best with the right CPU and the best Data buses is a major feat. And now that everything is being Doubled -- dual core, dual graphics -- it's entering the realm where Einstein would be amused, even on a bad hair day!

The New MacBooks. The world’s greenest family of notebooks.

The highly recyclable, even more energy-efficient MacBook family has been designed with the environment in mind.

MacBooks

When we designed the new MacBook, our designers and engineers set a goal of making not only the greenest notebook Apple ever produced, but the greenest family of notebooks. So every new MacBook has been built using materials that are highly recyclable and free of many of the harmful substances present in other computers. Apple engineers also designed the software and hardware to work together, in order to maximize energy efficiency and minimize the carbon footprint of the MacBook. Even the packaging was reconsidered and reduced, producing smaller boxes to ship and less material to recycle. The result is exactly what we hoped for: the greenest family of notebooks ever made.

New Laptops: The First of Two Waves

In PC deployments, I'm seeing a strong push to move from desktop to mobile, with some roll-outs jumping from 30 percent mobile to 60 percent midway through, suggesting a huge push to allow people to work wherever they are. The new products are, across the board, more secure, more reliable and more attractive than the products that came before.

Review of Nokia's stylish flip phone 7510 for T-Mobile

Nokia's 7510 was originally part of the fashion-oriented Supernova series, but dropped the Supernova title when it came to T-Mobile USA. Who is Killer Mobile ® Software?

Quite simply, we are the industry leaders in Smartphone Mobile Software Development. We have been since 2003 when we released our first Smartphone Application, AutoPilot Call Manager for Series 60 (Symbian OS) Mobile Devices which was on the bleeding edge of what mobile devices were capable of in it's day. Since then we've never looked back, and continue to lead the pack, followed closely by mindless imitators of half hearted software developers around the world.

Kaleidescape claims new 1080p upscaling DVD players "rival Blu-ray"

And you thought Toshiba's super-resolution DVD player taking on Blu-ray was comical. Kaleidescape -- the company famous for selling grossly overpriced (albeit fanciful) DVD / BD archiving systems for wealthy home theater junkies -- has just announced two new standalone DVD players that "provide a viewing experience that rivals Blu-ray." The argument goes something like this: there are 170,000 titles on DVD, and "just 6,000" (wait, for real?) on BD -- why support the next-gen format when these two upscaling DVD players display content that is utterly indiscernible from Blu-ray. For starters, the outfit is launching the 1080p Player (pictured), which earns the "ultimate DVD player" label by featuring a Sigma Designs Gennum VXP chip, 10-bit processing and full support for Dolby Digital, DTS, MPEG and PCM audio formats. The 1080p Mini Player offers the same, but in a tinier package meant for inconspicuous installations. Granted, both units do have exclusive access to Kaleidescape's Movie Guide database, but that hardly justifies the $4,295 / $2,995 price tags (in addition to the required $10,000 Kaleidescape System). Full release after the jump.

oppo_dv_983h.jpg

The best-selling disc players aren’t high-def models like Blu-ray machines — they're upconverting DVD players. Those are regular DVD players that sport an HDMI output for easy connection to an HDTV (HDMI carries both audio and video). Oppo has been the standard-bearer of this technology for a while, and today they announced a new model, the DV-983H. This one doesn't just upconvert; it also delivers Dolby Digital 7.1-channel sound and scales up images to 1080p with Anchor Bay’s VRS (Video Reference Series) technology, said to deliver better video than previous models.

We have owned the clearplay dvd player for 5 years and we absolutely love it. It makes any movie with a filter family friendly. We don't have children, but I don't want the garbage in my head any more than I do a childs. With this dvd player I can watch a movie without having to hear or see anything I don't want to. They do such a wonderful job that you usually can't even tell it's being edited. This dvd player is a must have for anyone trying to " fix their eyes on things that are praiseworthy and good."

Sony's new Handycam DCR-SR80, DCR-SR60 and DCR-SR40 hard drive camcorders

Sony's all out assault on the marketplace didn't stop with those wonderful new HD camcorders of theirs, they've also got three new standard definition Handycam units to show off. The DCR-SR80 leads the pack with a 1 megapixel CCD, 60GB drive, 2.7-inch widescreen viewfinder, 12x optical zoom, a hot shoe, and $800 price tag; the DCR-SR60 is essentially the same unit as the SR80, but with a 30GB drive and $700 price; the DCR-SR40 features a 40GB drive, 20x optical, 2.5-inch 4:3 aspect ratio touchscreen viewfinder, and $600 price point. All are due September, during which time we'd roughly estimate they'd vanish from store shelves in short order.
